What’s actually in Australian tap water?  ▾

Australian tap water meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Many households still choose filtration to improve taste and reduce specific substances they prefer to minimise, including disinfectant residuals, fluoride, metals and fine particles.

Chlorine + chloramine

Used by water utilities to disinfect drinking water. They can contribute to the characteristic taste and smell of tap water.

Trinity reduces chlorine by >99.9% and chloramine by 99.0%.

Fluoride

Added to many Australian water supplies for dental health. Standard carbon filters generally do not significantly reduce it.

Most of our filtered water ends up in the fridge, especially in summer. I spent a while comparing benchtop options because I didn't want something we'd stop using after a week. How is this different from the 8L Glass Trinity?

Both have a borosilicate glass tank, a bamboo lid and stand, and the same filter media. Glass Trinity goes one step further: the cartridge casing is glass too. No plastic tank, no plastic shell.

Is it lab tested?

Yes. The filter media inside Glass Trinity is the same media used in Trinity, which was tested by AS Enviro, an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. It cut fluoride by 99.5%, chlorine and lead by more than 99.9%, and chloramine by 99.0%.

How often do I change the cartridge?

About every 3 to 4 months, depending on how much you use and the quality of your water source. If the taste changes earlier than that, swap it sooner. Swapping takes a minute, no tools.

Can I use it in a rental?

Yes. Nothing is drilled, plumbed or wired in, so it sits on the bench and moves house with you.

Can I put hot water through it?

No. Glass Trinity is made for cold water only. Hot water damages the filter media, and that isn't covered by the guarantee.

Does it handle chloramine, not just chlorine?

Yes. Chloramine is what several Australian networks use instead of chlorine, and the filter media reduced it by 99.0% in independent lab testing.
